Summer Camp Update
The safety of our campers and staff is our highest priority, and we have been closely monitoring the effect that COVID-19 could have on our Council led resident and day camps at Meriwether, Misty Mountain and Timber Ridge. We remain keenly aware of the concerns related to health and safety and the potential risks associated with bringing girls together at camp.
In response to the current pandemic the Council has decided to pause, pivot and prepare for this summer.
We are pausing the start of summer camp and have cancelled sleep-away and day camps through June 20. This allows us time to provide adequate training to our staff and prepare the facilities after the shelter in place order is lifted.
We are pivoting by combining the remaining sleep-away camp sessions to one location, Camp Misty Mountain. Day camp will continue to be offered at Camp Timber Ridge but campers currently registered for sleep-away camp at Camp Meriwether or Timber Ridge will be offered the opportunity to be integrated into the Camp Misty Mountain sessions where possible. In the interim, registration will be temporarily closed until May 15 as we update the sessions to allow for currently registered campers affected to make changes. In addition, we will be offering virtual programming for the first three weeks of summer.
We are preparing for our summer camp programs by continuing to monitor healthcare recommendations. We are developing cleaning, safety and health protocols as well as reformatting our program to minimize contact and provide for adequate distancing to protect the health of our girls and staff. The CDC is providing guidance for safe operation specific to the camp environment.
We regret this interruption to a core tradition of Girl Scouting and pledge to do all we can to ensure that our outdoor program offerings remain available to girls and their families.
